Clinical Forums, Panels, and Point-Counterpoint Moderator Responsibilities

These session formats are designed to deliver structured, expert-led discussions with time for audience engagement. Moderators are responsible for coordinating with faculty in advance and ensuring a smooth, well-paced session onsite.

Session Format
Clinical Forums, Panels, and Point-Counterpoint sessions feature a moderator and multiple speakers presenting related or contrasting topics.

Sessions typically include brief, timed presentations from each speaker followed by audience Q&A. In Point-Counterpoint sessions, speakers may present differing viewpoints to encourage discussion.

Pre-session preparation (2-3 months in advance)
Moderators should contact all speakers well in advance of the meeting to align expectations and ensure a cohesive session.

Key responsibilities:

  • Confirm there is no overlap in content between speakers
  • Ensure each speaker understands and adheres to their allotted presentation time
  • Reinforce ACCME compliance requirements:
    • No industry names, trade names, or company logos included in slides
  • Provide your contact information (optional) for day-of coordination
  • Request brief introduction remarks from each speaker
  • Contact ASA staff if you need assistance obtaining speaker contact information

  • Please ensure your slides are ACCME compliant (no trade names, company logos, etc.)
  • To avoid overlap:
    • Dr. ___ will focus on [topic]
    • Dr. ___ will focus on [topic]
  • Please send me a few lines for your introduction
