With 10 session formats to choose from, including options for Medical Student and Resident Sessions, you can match your content to the appropriate setting or audience. Work with colleagues to develop a themed panel with multiple presentations, present a case in a Clinical Forum, give a Refresher Course Lecture, or explore both sides of a clinical controversy in a Point-Counterpoint discussion. Hands-on Workshops allow you to get deep into new technology or intensive education.

Engage in dynamic conversations in a Fireside Chat with a moderator and 2-3 panelists on stage, without presentations or AV. Or, join small group round table discussions in Connect – Learn – Continue, starting with a short presentation by a moderator and 2-3 panelists, and continue the conversation with further resources after the session.

All accepted PBLD cases will be presented in a round-table discussion with emphasis placed on team-based interactive discussion rather than on a lecture by the moderator. Prior to the session, PBLD pre-registered attendees will have received the “PBLD Homework” which includes the submitted “Stem Case and Key Questions” and “Model Discussion” sections of the case. They will have been instructed to review the homework and come prepared to discuss the case. Moderators will begin the session by presenting the case with clear objectives and directives to attendees to work together to find solutions. The moderator will provide feedback to the group and guide participants through discussion and decision-making as the case unfolds.

Abstracts submitted to ASA will be considered for Oral, ePoster or Paper Poster presentations. These presentations are delivered in English without translation. Abstracts chosen for presentation must be delivered by a presenting author fluent in English to facilitate comprehension of the information by the learner. Presentations are organized by topic into specific categories (e.g., Clinical Circulation, Experimental Neurosciences, etc.). Experts in the field facilitate or moderate all scientific abstract presentations.

Submitters can indicate that they would like their abstract to be considered for the Journal Symposium session. All submissions will also be considered for the Best Abstracts sessions (the abstracts presented at these sessions are selected by a panel of ANESTHESIOLOGY editors and the Abstract Review Subcommittees).

Case reports will not be considered--please submit case reports under the Medically Challenging Cases submission type.

The Scientific and Educational Exhibit (SEE) format is not intended to be used as a repository for work better presented as a scientific abstract or case report (MCC). Rather, this educational vehicle is intended to be used to display scientific or educational materials that may be best presented in a 10x10 exhibit space. Past examples focused on airway management, pain management and peripheral nerve blocks, including use of ultrasound techniques and exhibits that educate through the use of computer-based learning, advanced communication technology, handheld devices, videos and simulators.

Medically Challenging Cases (MCCs) and Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs) are a great opportunity for medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty to participate in ANESTHESIOLOGY. MCCs were introduced at the ASA annual meeting in 2005 as a forum for anesthesiology residents and attendings to present clinically challenging experiences and receive input from attendees as to how they would address the same difficult situation. These cases are of immense educational value to those attending the meeting and provide the presenter, specifically junior faculty, residents, and fellows, an opportunity to attend the annual meeting, gain experience in preparing a case presentation along with a poster, and present and share their experience to fellow colleagues.

MCCs and QIPs will be considered for ePoster or Paper Poster presentation. MCCs and QIPs chosen for presentation must be delivered by a presenting author fluent in English to facilitate comprehension of the information by the learner. Presentations are organized by topic into specific categories (e.g., Ambulatory Anesthesia, Cardiac Anesthesia, etc.). All MCC and QIPs presentations will be moderated.
