Patrick Giam, M.D., FASA, is president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). He is physician partner of U.S. Anesthesia Partners in Houston, Texas, a clinical assistant professor of Weill Cornell Medical College, an assistant professor of clinical anesthesiology at the Houston Methodist Academic Institute and an adjunct clinical assistant professor of the Texas A&M School of Medicine.
Dr. Giam is a long-time member of ASA and advocate for the specialty. Dr. Giam has served ASA in numerous leadership roles, most recently as president-elect, first vice president and chief of the Division of Administrative Affairs. He has also been speaker of the House of Delegates and chair of the Committee on Large Group Practice. Dr. Giam has served as a member of the Committee on Bylaws, Special Board Committee on Expert Witness Testimony, Committee on Neuroanesthesiology, Committee on Practice Management, Committee on Budget, Committee on Credentials and Committee on Governance Effectiveness and Efficiencies. He has also served on several ad hoc committees, including the following: Accountable Care Organizations, Governing Documents Alignment, NACOR Assessment and Business Development, Quality Practice Recognition, Payment Reform, Board Certification and Maintenance, and Annual Meeting Assessment. Dr. Giam is a former director of the Anesthesia Quality Institute and a former member of the Executive Board of the ASA Political Action Committee.
He is a long-serving member of the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists and was president in 2009. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Institute of Parliamentarians and is a registered parliamentarian of the National Association of Parliamentarians.
Dr. Giam received his Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from Texas A&M University in College Station and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed his internship in internal medicine and his residency in anesthesiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and his fellowship in cardiovascular anesthesiology at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas. His clinical practice has been focused on neuroanesthesia, and liver transplantation. He is board-certified in anesthesiology.
Jeffrey T. Mueller, M.D., FASA, is president elect of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). He is assistant professor of anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Rochester, Minnesota, and a staff anesthesiologist at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona.
Dr. Mueller has served ASA in numerous roles, most recently as first vice president, vice president of the Division of Administrative Affairs and has been a delegate in the ASA House of Delegates since 2007. He has also served as ASA vice president for professional affairs, director on the ASA Board of Directors, chair of the Anesthesia Quality Institute’s Board of Directors and chair of the ASAPAC Executive Board.
In 2015, Dr. Mueller received the Bertram W. Coffer, M.D., Excellence in Government award from ASA in recognition of his exemplary contributions to the specialty of anesthesiology, its practitioners and patients.
In addition to his commitments to ASA, Dr. Mueller served as president of the Arizona Society of Anesthesiologists and president of the Arizona Medical Association. He also served as chair of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association’s Committee on Clinical Leadership. In 2023, he received the National Leadership Award from the Arizona Medical Association and the Distinguished Service Award from the Arizona Society of Anesthesiologists.
Dr. Mueller received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tulsa and his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed his internship in internal medicine and his residency in anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He is board-certified in anesthesiology.
Dr. Mueller lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, with his wife Eileen Klein.
Kraig S. de Lanzac, M.D., MBA, FASA, is first vice president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). He is director of clinical anesthesia at Tulane Lakeside Hospital and vice chair and assistant professor of anesthesiology at Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Dr. de Lanzac is a long-time member of ASA and advocate for the specialty. Dr. de Lanzac has served in many leadership roles for ASA, most recently as Secretary of the Board of Directors, as a member of the Administrative Council, chair of the Committee on Special Societies and the Section on Representation. He was chair of the Committee on Communications, Committee on Anesthesia Care Team, Reference Committee on Finance and member of the House of Delegates.
In 2017, ASA presented Dr. de Lanzac with the Bertram W. Coffer, M.D., Excellence in Government Award, given in recognition of his exemplary contributions to the specialty of anesthesiology, its practitioners, and patients.
In addition to his commitments to ASA, Dr. de Lanzac served as president of the Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists (LSA) and is a member of LSA’s Executive Committee and Annual Meeting Committee. He is also the founding partner and a former member of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medical Consultants, LLC, Slidell, Louisiana.
Dr. de Lanzac received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans, where he also completed his residency in anesthesiology. He is board-certified in anesthesiology.
Donald E. Arnold, M.D., FACHE, FASA, is immediate past president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). He was elected president in October 2024 and served a one year term. He is also chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, physician lead for the Mercy Anesthesiology Specialty Council and sits on the Board of Directors of Western Anesthesiology Associates, Inc., in Ballwin, Missouri.
Dr. Arnold has served ASA in numerous roles, including president-elect, first vice president, treasurer and assistant treasurer. He has also chaired ASA’s Budget Committee, Section on Fiscal Affairs, Committee on Quality Management and Departmental Administration, Ad Hoc Committee on Deep Sedation and Education and Ad Hoc Committee on Payment and Care Delivery Models. Dr. Arnold was also a director and officer of the Anesthesia Quality Institute, and a director and officer of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research.
In addition to his commitments to ASA, Dr. Arnold has served as a full examiner and senior editor for the Standardized Oral Exam for the American Board of Anesthesiology, guest reviewer for Anesthesia & Analgesia and ASA liaison to The Joint Commission. He served as president of the Missouri Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA) and St. Louis Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Arnold serves on the Board of Directors for the Mercy East Communities. He has been recognized by the MSA with its Distinguished Service Award and by Mercy with the Charles E. Thoele Physician Leadership Award.
Dr. Arnold received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison, Wisconsin. He completed his transitional internship at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Connecticut, and his residency in anesthesiology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Hanover, New Hampshire. He is board-certified in anesthesiology.
He resides in St. Louis with his wife, Tamara K. Ehlert, M.D.; they have three adult children.
