Call for Applications

The 2026 Application Season will be open from June 1, 2026 to Friday, August 7, 2026 at 11:45 PM Central Time.

Residents with 18 months or more left in residency or fellowship are encouraged to apply for the Resident Component Governing Council officer position. Of note, the President-Elect, Alternate Delegate to the AMA Resident and Fellow Section, and Junior Co-Editor are 2-year positions; this allows for one year of working closely with the senior officer before assuming full responsibilities. PGY-1, CA-1's and CA-2's are eligible, as are CA-3's pursuing a fellowship. The Secretary and DEI Ambassador positions are 1-year positions.

Review the description and duties of each position before applying. Candidates are encouraged to contact the current officers to discuss the duties and responsibilities and to ask any questions. 

Candidates must submit the following materials:

• Application
• One-page summary of qualifications and platform statement (Sample (pdf))
• CV
• Professional Headshot
• Letter of recommendation/support from the candidate’s anesthesia residency program director.
• Junior Co-Editor candidates only: 500- to 700-word writing sample on a topic of choice. 

Please note the candidate's residency program director should provide a strong letter of support. The program director's letter should clearly state the resident will have ample protected time to prepare for and attend all of the meetings and perform the responsibilities of each respective office. Elections occur at the ASA Resident Component House of Delegates meeting during the ANESTHESIOLOGY Annual Meeting each October. All application materials will be provided to resident delegate members electronically for their review prior to voting.

Residents interested in representing their state in the Resident Component House of Delegates should contact their state societies to determine what the process is for being elected or appointed to the ASA Resident Component House of Delegates.
