Itay Bentov, MD, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington. He is a practicing anesthesiologist at Harborview Medical Center and a nationally recognized leader in geriatric anesthesia and perioperative care of older adults. His clinical and academic work focuses on frailty, sarcopenia, trauma, and optimizing perioperative outcomes in vulnerable surgical populations.
Dr. Bentov received his MD from Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem and his PhD from Tel Aviv University, completing postgraduate research training through the NIH Graduate Partnership Program. He has authored more than 60 peer reviewed publications and book chapters and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international meetings. He currently serves as chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Geriatric Anesthesia Committee and is deeply committed to education, mentorship, and advancing evidence based perioperative care for older adults.
Dr. Frederick E. Sieber, MD, is a professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He serves as director of clinical research of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital.
Dr. Sieber’s research focuses on optimizing anesthetic care for elderly, cognitively impaired patients to reduce the risk of postoperative delirium. He has led and participated in numerous clinical trials dedicated to frail surgical patients—with a particular emphasis on hip fracture recovery. Reflecting his expertise in the field, he served as a lead author for the 2025 ASA Practice Advisory for Perioperative Care of Older Adults.
Zachary Deutch, MD, FASA, is an attending physician with US Anesthesia Partners-Florida and is a guest editor for The Central Line Podcast. Dr. Deutch serves on the editorial board for the ASA Monitor, and is the author of the bimonthly column "Ask The Expert." Dr. Deutch is also the physician review editor of the ASA Monitor Today, is a member of several ASA Committees, and is an at-large member of the ASA House of Delegates from Florida.
Dr. Deutch is a graduate of Princeton University and The George Washington University School of Medicine. His residency training was done at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, followed by a cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.
