Dr. Adam Striker interviews Drs. Ashley Eltorai and Joseph Answine to gain a better understanding of what anesthesiologists should know about the deposition process. Dr. Ashley Eltorai is an assistant professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and a juris doctor candidate at the University of Connecticut School of Law. She serves on the editorial board of the ASA Monitor and on three ASA committees: Patient Safety and Education, Quality Management and Departmental Administration, and Professional Liability. Dr. Eltorai has extensive experience as an expert witness in medical malpractice litigation and has authored multiple publications and a textbook chapter on medicolegal issues in anesthesiology. Her professional interests include patient safety, medicolegal risk management, quality improvement, and physician advocacy.
Dr. Joseph Answine is a professor in the department of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine at Penn State University Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He also serves as vice president for scientific affairs for The Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists as well as alternate director for Pennsylvania to the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Answine is a member of the ASA Committee on Professional Liability, the ASA Committee on the Anesthesia Care Team, and the ASA Committee on Practice Parameters. He also serves as an ASA delegate to the ASA house of delegates.
Adam Striker, MD, FASA, is the past chair of the ASA’s Committee on Communications and is the series editor for ASA’s Central Line podcast series. He is Professor of Anesthesiology at Medical College of Wisconsin, a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist at Children’s Wisconsin and serves as Director of Clinical Operations for pediatric anesthesiology at Children's Wisconsin. He received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Purdue University and his medical degree from Indiana University. He completed his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Northwestern University.
